The Watergate Theatre and Asylum Productions are seeking 3 actors of Muslim background for a two-day
play development workshop*.
The play (The Elm Tree by Darren Donoghue – winner of ‘Write Here Right Now’) deals with the challenges of parenting in contemporary multi-cultural rural Ireland, against the backdrop of religious and cultural differences.
Asylum makes theatre that offers an amplifier for voices less often heard, and we are committed to the simple principle of “nothing about us without us”. Therefore we would really like to have actors with knowledge and personal
experience of the Muslim faith and culture to help us with the script
The actors needed are:
1 male – age range early 40’s to mid 50’s
1 female – age range early 40’s to mid 50’s
1 male – late teens.
All three actors would preferably be of Pakistani origin.
Acting experience is not essential, but we do need readers who are fluent and
comfortable sight-reading in English, and who are not afraid of reading in public.
The development will take place on Sat 5th and Sunday 6th of Sept 2020, and will hopefully be followed by a live (socially distanced) public reading at the Watergate
Theatre on Culture Night, Friday 18th of September (Covid permitting!)
If you’re not sure, but you’re interested in being involved, talk to us. Send us an email on firstname.lastname@example.org with an outline of your acting experience and\or interest, and a headshot (nothing fancy needed – a selfie is fine) and we’ll get back to you with more info.
