SPOTLIGHT ON THE ARTIST
The 12 March 2021 – marked one year since the Irish Government directed cultural institutions, in which large numbers of people gather indoors, to close their doors indefinitely.
The Watergate Theatre, Kilkenny announced to those due to perform on its stage that evening that their event and all ensuing events in the theatre’s programme were cancelled or postponed.
The Covid-19 Pandemic has delivered a killer blow to artists of all disciplines but unsurprisingly artists have been heroic in their artistic responses to this blow.
In the coming weeks the Watergate will shine a spotlight on the artists and partners it worked with, through funded commissions and residencies, during the lockdown months of 2020.
These artists created work which will stand as a cultural record of this time and we are deeply grateful to them for their resilience and innovation.
